Dear Mr. Rael:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff.

has reviewed and agrees with changes related to Project Interface Documents (PlDs) 2, 3, 5, and 19 for the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project at Naturita, Colorado.

L These documents are also referred to by the Department of Energy (DOE) as Construction -

Resolution / Revision documents (CRRs) 2,3,5, and 19 These PIDs concem geotechnical, health physics and surface eression protection changes at the disposal site in Uravan, Colorado -

and were submittet through various subminals in 1997. DOE representatives have stated that their intent is to include all specification changes, up to and including PID 19, into a newly. -

revised Remedial Action Plan (RAP)..Therefore, the staff will provide formal concurrence in these changes by virtue of its concurrence in the forthcoming RAP, s
