PORTSMOUTH GASEOUS DIFFUSION PLANT INSPECTION NO. 70-7002/97-209 Dear Mr. Miller.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commiss:on conducted a routine inspection of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant's material control and accounting (MC&A) safeguards program from September 29 to October 3,1997. This letter encloses a report detailing the scope, observations, and results of the inspection.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with members of your staff.

One non-cited violation, two unresolved items, and four inspector followup items were opened.
The NRC will resolve these concems during a future MC&A inspection.
Under the provisions of Title 10, Part 2.790(d), of the Code of Federal Regulations, reports containing information about a certificate holder's MC&A program are exempt from public disclosure. Accordingly, the enclosure will Dat be placed in the Public Document Room.
