Ladies-& Gentlemen:

SUBJECT:

Hope Creek Generating Station- (H.C.)

Facility Opersting License: NPF-57, Docket No. 50-354 Technical: Specification Change-Request " Elimination of Suppression Pool Water Volure References" -- LCR H97-15 On August 20, 1997, Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a request = forl revisions to H.C. ~ Technical Specifications (TS) 3/4.5.31

" Emergency Core Cooling Systems Suppression Chamber,"

3/4.6.2 "Depressurization Systems, Suppression Chamber," and 5.2.1 D

" Containment Configuration"..The proposed changes seek to delete

-references-to the H.C.. Suppression Chamber water volume from the

TSs, and relocate these references to the Updated -Final Safety Analysis Report- (UFSAR) and the-TS Bases, as appropriate.-

The

-remaining controlling parameter in the TSs will now-be the water levet in_the Sunpression Chamber.

TheNewJerseyDepartmentofEnvironmentalProtection(NJDEP)[lk Bureau of~ Nuclear Engineering (BNE) has reviewed the change request per requirements _of 10 CFR 50.91(b) and has the following comment:

In LCO Section 4.6.2.1.a (Page 3/4 6-13) of the TSs, reference to " chamber water volume" still remains.

Since the key parameter ^is now-the water level, the reference to " volume" will need to' be changed to " level".
