JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 NARRATIVE SIDNARY OF OPERATIONS August, 1986 During the month of August, there were two significant power-reductions. A significant power reduction occurred on August I when power was reduced to 28% due to high gear oil temperature on both operable charging pumps.

The gear oil coolers were flushed and the unit returned to power operation.

Another significant power reduction occurred on August 3 when power was reduced to 35% to facilitate a ecntainment entry to refill the IC reactor coolant pump motor lower oil reservoir. During the month of August, there was also one unit shutdown. A reactor trip occurred due to low steam generator level coincident with feed flow less than steam flow.

This was caused by a failed printed circuit card in the controller for the 1C steam generator main feedwater regulating valve.

The controller card was replaced and the unit returned to power operation.

The following major safety-related maintenance was perforined in the month of August:

1.

Miscellaneous corrective and preventive maintenance was performed on diesel generators.

l l

2.

Cleaned and flushed the gear oil heat exchangers on the charging pumps.

l l

3.

Corrective maintenance was performed on the motor driven fire l

pump.

l 4.

The lA Service Water pump was rebuilt.
