PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos.50-282 License Nos. DFR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Response to Generic Letter 97-04, Assurance of SuCicient Not Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling ard Containment Heat Removal Pumps The purpose of this letter is to provide the 30 day response to NRC Generic Letter 97-04 for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generatin0 Plant.
NRC Generic Letter 97-04 requests licensaec to review their NPSH evaluations for emergency core cooling and containtrient beat removal pumps wnen taking suction from the Containment Sump. Currently, Prairie Island would not use the containment heat removal pumps in a recirculation mode of operation. Thus, this review is only pertinent to the emergency core cooling systems.
The Generic Letter 'equests that licensees provide specific information (for example, methodology, requirud NPSH, available NPSH, etc.) within 90 days from the date of the letter. We commit to providing this information no later than January 5,1998.
The operability of affected systems has been assessed based on an initial review of the evaluations. Th6se assessments have determined that all affected equipment is operable.
