WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION DESIGN INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Maynard:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's plans to conduct a design inspection of the Wolf Creek Generating Station. We have scheduled the on-site inspection for the weeks of November 17 throu through 19, 1997:gh 21, 1997: December 1 through 5, 1997; December 15 and January 5 through 9. 1998.
Your staff has indicated that there are no major conflicts with on-site activities during these Jeriods. The NRC team leader and two team members will visit the site between October 27 and October 29. 1997, to review administrative aspects of the inspection and to collect documentation necessary for in-office review and on-site inspection, Recent NRC inspections at nuclear power reactor facilities have identified numerous findings where the plant configuration or operations were inconsistent with the design basis, licensing basis, or the updated safety analysis report (USAR). Therefore, the NRC has decided to perform design inspections at nuclear power reactor facilities utilizing Inspection Procedure (IP) 93801. " Safety System Functional Inspection." The two mechanical systems 9
selected for inspection are the Residual Heat Removal System and Component Cooling Water S stem.
In addition. support and interface systems will be
