Dear Sir,
We are in receipt of your NRC Bulletin 97-02 dated 23 September 1997 regarding puncture testing of shipping packages under 10 CFR Part 71. This bulletin requires us to respond to you today (30 days after the date of the bulletin) indicating whether we will implement the requested actions within the time frames specified in the bulletin.
We wish to note that this bulletin was not posted to us until 80ctober 1997 (15 days after the date of the bulletin) and was not received until 17 October 1997. Because of the lateness of the posting '
of this bulletin to us, we wish to comply with the requested actions within the time frames specified from the date of posting rather than the date printed on the bulletin. Specifically, we commit to:
(i) by 22 November 1997 (45 days from the date of posting) provide a report confirming completion of the actions requested in items 1 & 2 of the bulletin, including a description of the evaluations performed, and any special precautions or operational controls needed, and any health and safetyjustiGeations prepared in response to the requested actions.
(ii) by 6 January 1998 (90 days from the date of posting) provide a report confirming completion of the actions requested in item 3 of the bulletin, including the plan and schedule fordemonstrating the adequacy of the design andjustification of the timeliness of the schedule.
