Dear Mr. Miller:
The purpose of this letter is to request a thirty day extension to the response period for the Notice of Violation (NOV) contained in your letter dated Oct.ober 8,1997, " Notice of Violation and
. Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalties - $210,000." Your letter was received on October 14,1997
. and response is therefore due by November 13,1997. A thirty day extension would allow a new '
due date for reply to the violations of December 15,1997. It is our intention to pay the civil penalties by November 13,1997.
The violations cited in the subject NOV are related to information contained in five inspection reports, two Confirmatory Action Letters (CAL's), two predecisional enforcement conferences, and associated correspondence with the NRC. - As a result of responding to the CAL's, iconferences, and inspection report (96-201), a significant number of corrective actions are underway or completed. It is anticipated that an additional thirty days will be required to insure that our reply adequately addresses the violations and is consistent with our previous correspondence.
