OCT 141997 Mr. Robert M Quillin, Chair Organization of Agreement States Laboratory & Radiation Services Division Department of Public Health & Environment 8100 Lowry Boulevard Denver, CO 80220-6928
Dear Mr. Quillin:
The success of the Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (IMPEP) results in large part from the participation of Agreement State staff as team members and from the participation of Agreement State Radiation Control Program Directors as Liaison members of the Management Review Board (MRB). This joint assessment approach has broadened the experience base of the evaluation team, increased the objectivity and credibility of the team findings, resulted in greater acceptance of the team's findings by the Agreement State or NRC j
Region being reviewed, increased the sharing of experience among NRC and Agreement State staff, and improved comradeship among NRC Region and Headquarter's staff and Agreement State staff. Within NRC, the IMPEP evaluation process is viewed as being so successful that it is now often referenced as a model meJ;cd for the conduct of organizational performance assessments.
Through the Organization of Agreement States (OAS), NRC expresses its 9ppreciation to those Agreement States which have volunteered management and staff for participation in IMPEP reviews. A list of the Agreement State personnel who have participated in IMPEP reviews since the inception of the program in 1995, as well as the specific reviews each individual has participated in, can be found in Enclosure 1. A list of MRB Agreement State Liaisons, as well as the specific reviews each manager has participated in, can be found in Enclosure 2. This participation is critically important to the success of IMPEP NRC also expresses its appreciation to OAS, and to you as OAS Chair, for support of the IMPEP program and efforts to 4
recruit Agreement State program staff for IMPEP participation.
