Dear Mr. Miller:
This is in response to your October 20, 1986 letter requesting NRC funds for your Tribe's participation in HRC's high-level waste (HLW) meetings.
We appreciate your continued interest in the HLW program. Unfortunately, NRC is not authorized to provide financial assistance to any states or tribes for participation in the HLW program. The Department of Energy has the authority to provide grants to affected tribes, pursuant to the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, Section 118(b), Participation of Indian Tribes, Financial Assistance (copy enclosed).
We welcome your attendance at NRC/ DOE technical meetings. As you are probably aware, NRC's toll free telephone recording for upcoming technical meetings is 1/800/368-5642, Ext. 79002.
In addition, we have verified that Mr. Joel Miller's name is on the NRC mailing list for receipt of notices of availability of all significant NRC HLW documents.
