Dear Mr. MacDonald:

The Nuclear Assurance Corporation hereby requests an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 9183, Revision 4, to permit the shipment of irradiated natural uranium fuel rods cooled one year.

The reduction in cool time from two years to one year raises the decay heat load from 500 watts to 750 watts.

Our analysis shows that there is no sig ificant change in cask temperature due to the increased heat load.

In addition to the increased decay heat, the effect of shipment in an enclosed shipping container, is evaluated.

Enclosed are ten (10) copies of the revised pages of the Safety Analysis Repcrt that present our evaluation of this shipping configuration.

The suggested revision is to delete ".. 730 days..." and insert ".. 365 days..."

at line 5, (B), (2), (III) of the Certificate.

In accordance with 10CFR170.31, a check for $150.00 is enclosed as the application fee.
