Dear Mr. Hallisey:
As you are aware, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is using the Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (IMPEP) for the evaluation of Agreement State Programs, Per our discussion, I will be the team leader for the IMPEP review of the Messachusetts program schedulect for the week of January 1216,1998. Tha team willinclude Richard Blanton. NRC Office of State Programs, Cynthia Sanders, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and a staff member from the NRC Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards. Additionally, I will be performing inspector accompaniments during the week of December 8-12,1997.
Enclosed is the document, " Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program Questio,naire." The questionnaire is being furnished to you on a computer disk as well as in printed iorm. I ask that you send your responses by internet to JLL2@NRC. GOV or return the disk to me by December 1,1997. I am sending the document and disk in advance of the January IMPEP review in order to provide time for you to allocate the staff resources necessary to complete the document by the due date.
Part A of the questionnaire contains questions on the common performance indicators, Part B contains questions on the non-common performance indicators for Agreement States.
I request that you set up an appointment with the appropriate State Senior Management Official to discuss the results of the IMPEP review of the Massachusetts program on January 16,1998.
