PUBLIC SUBMISSION As of: 7/29/20 10:06 AM Received: July 18, 2020 Status: Pending_Post Tracking No. 1k4-9hvz-svno Comments Due: November 03, 2020 Submission Type: Web Docket: NRC-2016-0231 Waste Control Specialists LLC's Consolidated Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility Project Comment On: NRC-2016-0231-0317 Interim Storage Partners Consolidated Interim Storage Facility Project Document: NRC-2016-0231-DRAFT-0321 Comment on FR Doc # 2020-09795 Submitter Information Name: Christine Guldi General Comment In 2020, USGS has recorded thirty-four earthquakes within sixty-five miles of the Interim Storage Partners Consolidated Interim Storage Facility Project site, including a cluster of twenty about thirty miles northwest, near Monument NM. The most recent quake was this morning, a 3.0 quake northwest of Odessa, about fifty miles from the site. The clusters of small quakes appear to be similar to ones we have experienced in North Texas that are associated with oil and gas wells and disposal wells. Waste Control Specialists site is surrounded by oil and gas wells in New Mexico and Texas. Seismic activity has increased in the area during the last twelve months.
The record of quakes in the neighborhood in 2020 contradicts the Draft EIS claim that there is no nearby seismic activity. The EIS does not include seismic information more recent that 2015. The EIS for this project is outdated and misleading. Please reject this application.
