Ladies and Gentlemen:
By SNC letter ND-20-0590, dated June 12, 2020, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted a request for alternative in accordance with 10CFR 50.55a for preservice acceptance of volumetric examinations. This letter revises the proposed alternative to further restrict flaw size and numbers of welds. The enclosure provides the revised alternative, which replaces the previously submitted request for alternative in its entirety. The changes in the enclosure are marked with lines in the right margin.
The details of the 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1) request are contained in the enclosure to this letter.
Approval is requested by September 30, 2020, to support performance of preservice inspection activities prior to Unit 3 ITAAC completion.
The enclosure provides the Revision to the Request for Proposed Alternative VEGP 3&4-PSI/ISI-ALT-14R1 in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1).
