Proposed Change #125 - Fuel Enrichment Limit
Subject:
New Fuel Storage Vault Criticality Analysis Gentlemen:
In accordance with the NRC staff's request for additional information to support the conclusions in Reference (b) on the acceptability of the new fuel storage vault, enclosed is Maine Yankee's analysis of the criticality of the new fuel storage vault with 3.5 weight percent U-235 enriched fuel as a function of moderator density.
Criticality analysis of the new fuel storage vault under flooded and low density moderater conditions was performed using NITAHL-KENO methodology and validated by comparisons to continuous energy Monte Carlo calculations.
K-effective of the racks under fully flooded conditions (0% void), and for conditions of optimum moderation (95% void) was well below the NRC acceptable limits for K-effective of 0.95 and 0.98, respectively.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY 8612160003 861208
