NRC Staff-ARCO /BWXT Meetings
Dear Mr. Orlando:
This is a follow up to our earlier discussion and concerns periodic NRC staff-ARCO /BWXT
(
meetings to be held in the development of the decommissioning plan for the SLDA. Your summary for the meeting between the NRC staff and ARCO /BWXT, which occurred on May 20,1999, states that the NRC staffintends to hold periodic meetings at appropriate milestones and specifies the milestones, the approximate date, and location for these meetings.
After reviewing this information, we find that your proposal is not compatible with our preparation plans and schedule for development and preparation of the SLDA Decommissioning Plan.
b When ARCO /BWXT met with the NRC staff on December 2,1998 we presented and discussed our plans for developing the SLDA decommissioning plan. Subsequent to meeting we forwarded to the NRC a preliminary draft schedule and emphasized that the schedule and elements of the o
\\\\A schedule were subject to change. We also confirmed that it was our intent to expedite plan development where practical. A planned schedule to meet with the NRC staff as depicted in the Meeting Summary of June 9,1999 adds additional constraints to an already ambitious schedule.
ARCO /BWXT will be pleased to periodically meet with the NRC staff to present and discuss the status of the decommissioning plan. In order for these meetings to be informative we believe that 9909080078 990825 PDR ADOCK 07003085 C

i We t ropose that the next meeting be held on October 27 or 28 where we will present the status of the attematives analysis. If either of these dates are acceptable, ARCO /BWXT will submit to i
you a proposed agenda by September 30,1999. Please advise.
