Dr. P. Rama Rao Chairman Atomic Energy Regulatory Board 4th Floor, North Wing Vikram Sarabhal Bhavan Anushakti Nagar, Mumbal 400 094
. India Dear Chairman Rao; 1
Thank you for your letter of May 30,1997, in which you suggest a new means of 4
implementing the three Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)- Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) nuclear safety projects. I apologize for the delay in responding. However, I am pleased to report that, after review by the CommNslon, we are in agreement that the projects can be undertaken.
Specifically, NRC agrees that a team of Indian scientists should visit NRC at a mutually convenient time to discuss further plans for the three agreed nuclear safety projects. As noted in your letter, the expenses of the Indian team would be bome by the AERB.*
Foliowing the successful completion of this visit, the NRC would send a complementary team to India to continue the nuclear safety dialogue. NRC would be responsible for the costs of the NRC team's intemational air travel, and all other NRC team expenses in India would be bome by the AERB.
We look forward to working with the AERB in carrying out these projects, which we believe will be mutually beneficial. The NRC point of contact for arranging the AERB team's visit to the United States is Dr. Karen Henderson, Office of Intemational Programs, NRC, She can be reached at (301) 4151771 (telephone), (301) 415-2400 (fax), or e-mail at KJH@NRC.
