Dear Mr. Liparulo:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed your September 12, 1997, letter which supplements your June 9, 1997, and August 21, 1997, letter in response in NRC Inspection Report No. 99900404/97-01, dated May 2, 1997.
While the NRC staff finds that your reply is responsive to the nonconformances identified in our inspection report Westinghouse still needs to provide for NRC review, on the docket, the results of the "AP600 F0AKE Design Assurance Review" before final closure can be achieved on the unresolved item.
Once this information has been received, we will review the nature and significance of issues identified and inform you if additional information will be required before our final closeout inspection of the AP600 design certification activities. During this inspection, we will confirm that proposed corrective actions have been effectively implemented to achieve full compliance with the-provisions of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50 and 10 CFR Part 52.
We will inform you as soon as por.sible when a date for the final inspection has been estab-lished.
The staff currently does not anticipate a need to conduct a separate meeting on this matter.
