4 This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated July 30,1997 and your wire of $210,000 received on July 23,1997, in payment for the civil penalties proposed by NRC in a letter dated June 20,1997.

P 4 .One of your corrective actions for Vlolation I involved your commitment to conduct independent department wide assessment. You noted, in part, that assessment criteria have i

been developed and have and will continue to be utilized to ovaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Following discussions with your staff,it was

,- determined that the criteria that you committed to were contained in a single March 16,1997, contracted assessment of your facility, but those criteria have not yet been incorporated in your program activities. Therefore, within 30 days of the date of this letter, please provide an additional response describing the criteria and your intended frequency of continuing

. assessments of your program. Your implementation of these additional actions will be reviewed during NRC inspection of your other corrective actions to prevent recurrence of these violations.
