Pursuant to 10CFR50.59(b) the following items are submitted for the Kansas State University TRIGA Mark II Nuclear Reactor Facility for the period 1 October 1996 through 30 September 1997.

A. Changes in the Facility A Reactor Manager position was created, involving the merger of the former Facility Director position and that of the Reactor Supervisor, in February 1997, In support of this change, the NRC issued amendment #10 to license R-38, approving the creation of a Reactor Manager position on 30 October 1996. Similar changes to the Emergency Plan were approved by the NRC under 10CFR50.54(q) on 21 November 1997.

A sump water filtration system was installed to meet the requirements of 10CFR20,2003(a). These changes were approved

  • by the Reactor Safeguards Committee on 7 January 1997.

An updated SAR is being prepared for relicensing in 2001.

B. Changesin Procedures Revisions to Procedure 9: Entrance to the Rcactor Bay were approved

  • by the .

Reactor Safeguards Committee on 22 April 1997. The changes reflect do requirements of 10CFR20.1502.

, ,4 C. Changes in Tcsts or Experiments As an addendum to Experiment 15 Experiment 15A: Ex Core Irradiation ofLarge Samples, was approved

  • by the Reactor Safeguards Committee on 22 July 1997. Similar to Experiment 15, this experiment permits irradiation oflarge samples outside of the reactor core, j l
  • Approval of the Reactor Safeguards Committee signifies that the proposed changes do not involve any unreviewed safety questions, and that their implementation does riot represent an increase in the risks to personnel or reactor integrity.
