Dear Shirley (or designee):
I am a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee of the Utility Riological Safety Board of Ohio. We discussed at cur last meeting the possibility that
- both Ohio facilities (Perry and Davis-Besse) could possibly have a single safety officer after the merger was completed. The Committee is of the L
opinion that this would be a bad idea. After spirited discussion the following j
resolution was passed:
"CAC Resolution 97-003 meeting of 23 April 1997" The CAC memF3rs havc heard that the Centerior-Ohio Edison merger will save consumers money by eliminating duplication. Cost savings from duplication elimination is different from general cost reduction.
The CAC is'concemed that a cost cutting program that operates across the
- board might adversely impact nuclear safety at the Davis-Besse and Perry facilities.
We recommend careful consideration of nuclear safety issues in the proposed merger in order to best protect the public."
