Dear Dr. Pomeroy:
As you leave the Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste (ACNW), we wish to express our most sincere appreciation for the significant contributions you have made to the safety and regulation of radioactive waste disposalin the United States. Over the past seven years, your exemplary service first as a member, and then as Chairman of the ACNW has greatly contributed to the advancement of nuclear safety and to improvements in the regulatory process.
Your management expertise and leadership ability were particularly noteworthy in the prioritization of technical and policy issues that directly resulted in a more focused and effective Committee. For many years, you have led the ACNW in providing advice to the Commission on the elicitation and use of expert judgment in NRC activities. You have demonstrated an abiding interest in and understanding of the myriad technical and legal issues and tirelessly promoted the development of NRC guidance on the Use of Expert Elicitation in the Radioactive Waste Program.
Your leadership qualities and insightful perspective on the technical and policy issues facing the Committee, and the professional manner in which you approached your duties, have made your accomplishments all the more effective.
We will miss our association with you and wish you good health and good fortune in all your future endeavors.
Sincerely, JWW (5kA. D.-
