CHAIAMAN The Honorable Alda Alvare:

Administrator U.S. Small Business Administration Washington, D.C. 20416

Dear Ms. Alvarez:

Thank you for your letter of August 26,1997, which provides an update on the status of the Small Business Administration's PRO-Net Database for Small Businesses.

Our Office of Small Business and Civil Rights (SBCR) has examined the PRO-Net pilot and believes that once fully operational, it will be an outstanding system for registering small businesses to meet the needs of NRC as well as other Federal agencies. The expanded database will be particularly useful to the NRC, as we seek to increase the number of small, disadvantaged and women-owned businesses with nuclear-related expertise in our procurement activities.

Irene P. Little, Director, SBCR, and her staff will be the primary users of PRO-Net within the NRC. They will provide your staff any additional comments or suggestions as they gain experience using the database. If you or your staff have additional questions or seek further discussion, Ms. Little may be reached at (301) 415-7380.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance in supporting this initiative.

Sincerely, Ak
