I am resporeding to your letter of September 8,1997, inviting me to the U.S. Department of Energy's workshop on high-level waste tank closure issues in Salt Lake City, l want to thank-you for your invitation, unfortunately I will not be able to attend. Although I will not be personally attending, two members of my staff, one of which, Mr. Jack D. Parrott, is the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission project manager for the West Valley site, will be attending. My staff is looking forward to participating in this workshop representing NRC's views on high-level waste tank closure and to answer any questions from the attendees, if you have any questions please call Mr. Parrott, at 301415-6700.
