NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION L.,
j WASHINGTON, D. C. 20S55 t3...+p Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record Model No. AP-101 Package Docket No. 71-9071 By application dated July 11, 1986, as supplemen'ted July 18, 1986, ANEFCO, Inc. requested temporary modification to the Model No. AP-101 package design.
ANEFCO, Inc. proposes to tack weld a support structure to the inside wall of the containment vessel. Once the shipments are completed, grinding would be utilized to remove the welds and support structure.
We are in agreement with the applicant that the temporary modification will have no significant effect on the ability of the package design to meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
In addition, we have required, "Except for close fitting contents, shoring must be placed between secondary containers and the cask cavity to prevent movement during accident conditions of transport." This authorization was approved on August 1, 1986 and would expire November 30, 1986.
By application dated October 6, 1986, ANEFCO, Inc. requested a 6-month extension of this approval. This authorization has been extended until May 31, 1987.
