Westinghouse Position On Primary Equipment Support Redesign Ycur letter of January 21, 1987, provided the reasons for your position that redesigned primary equipment supports with fewer sr.ubbers would improve plant reliability and availability while maintaining adeouate seismic safety margins. This issue is of current NRC interest with respect to implementing the limited scope rule change to General Design Criterion 4 (GDC.4), as well as proceeding with the broad scope rulemaking on GDC-4.

We appreciate your interest in the issue of primary equipment support redesign. Your letter has also been forwarded to the NRC Office of Research for consideration in completing the proposed Standard Review Plan that will accompany the broad scope rule.
