Richard P. Denise, Director, Division of Reactor Safety and Projects

SUBJECT:

INTERVIEW OF MRS. DOBIE HATLEY On February 10, 1984, Messrs. Paul S. Check and Richard P. Denise interviewed Mrs. Dobie Hatley at her home in Glen Rose, Texas. We also visited the Comanche Peak plant to view documents that Mrs. Hatley wished to bring to our attention. -The interview with Mrs. Hatley was in response to a telephone request by Mrs. Juanita Ellis, of CASE, on that same afternoon.

Mrs. Ellis requested that we interview Mrs. Hatley on that same day, and see the documents which Mrs. Hatley wished us to see. There was urgency associated with the request because CASE had already mailed testimony prepared by Mrs. Hatley to the parties involved in the Comanche Peak case, and Mrs. Ellis was concerned that the documents which Mrs. Hatley would show us might not be available once the testimony was received by TUGCO. We responded to this request by promptly going to Glen Rose, Texas, to interview Mrs. Hatley, and by visiting the site with Mrs. Hatley.

With Mrs. Hatley's permission, the interview was recorded on a portable tape recorder. A transcript of that recording has been prepared, and three copies of the transcript are attached. A sworn statement was prepared and signed at the time of the interview; three copies of that statement are also attached.

The tape recording has remained in my possession.

Mrs. Hatley did not request, and was not given confidentiality.

It, therefore, appears appropriate to send this material to the Board and other parties. You should work out that distribution with ELD and others. We will send a copy of the package directly to M s. Hatley
