Dear Ms. Southard:
Thank you for your handwritten note expanding on your formal comments regarding the Commission's proposed revisions to 10 CFR Part 19 relating to the standards for radiation protection. Please be assured that my commitment to the protection of the public health and safety has not changed from that which I expressed to you during our previous conversation.
The proposed revision reflects recent recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection.
Commission action on t) tis proposed rule will not be taken until public comments nave been received, analyzed, and evaluated. For your information, the comment period on this proposed rule was recently extended to September 12, 1986.
Although you indicated a concern about whether your handwritten comments should properly be part of the public record of this rulemaking, I have been advised that legal considerations dictate that I place both your comments and a copy of this reply into the public docket.
Sincerely, W f'/E[b b w At s
Nunzio. Palladino i
