4 R 4 (2) Description N 4 E l The packages are cylindrical, steel-encased, lead filled, weldments y consisting of two nain units, the biological shield and a movable a rotor. The main biological shield has a 5/8-inch outer carbon steel 4 wall and a 3/8-inch thick inner stainless steel wall. A stationary 4 center core is part of the main shield and is constructed of 3/8-inch it thick stainless steel material. The movable rotor unit contains three j specimen chanbers spaced 120 apart. It consists of a 3/8-inch thick j stainless steel housing filled with lead and rotates around the center t core. Within the main shield are three line sources, located 120 4l apart about the center of the irradiation position. The packages are ,

Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record Model flos. DA520 and DA521 Packanes Docket No. 71-9013 By application dated Pay 22, 1986, Departnent of Agriculture requested renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9013. flo changes have been requested or made to the package since approval of the latest supplement dated May 15, 1981.
The staff concludes that the statenents of the February 5,1981, application, as supplemented, satisfy the requirement for renewal of the certificate of compliance as conditioned.
The applicant and user of these packages should note the limitations on the fabricatican of additional packagings and use of existing packagings as stated in 10 CFR 671.13.
