NRC STAFF MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME WITHIN WHICH TO FILE OBJECTIONS TO PREHEARING CONFERENCE ORDER On October 6, 1986, the NRC Staff was served with a copy of the Licensing Board's "Prehearing Conference Order (Ruling on Contentions and Establishing Discovery Schedule)" (Order), dated October 3, 1986.

Pursuant to 10 C.F.R. 5 2.752, the Staff's objections, if any, to the Order would be due by CJeor 16, 1986.

The Staff hereby requests an l

11 day extension to and including Monday October 27, 1986, within which to file any such objections.

The Staff's request is predicated on the

~

significance of the issues raised by the Board's Order and the need for Staff Counsel to extensively consult with the technical Staff and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

As was the case with "[ FEMA's] Request for Enlargement of Time to l

Respond to Board's Prehearing Conference Order" filed on October 9, i

1986, the Staff's requested enlargement of time is made solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to file objections to the Board's Order.

The _ Staff does not believe that a grant of the instant request 861021C220 861015 PDR ADOCK 05000322 G

PDR

\\

7 should alter the time for discovery or other scheduling in this proceeding.

Counsel for LILCO has authorized the Staff to state that LILCO has no objection to the Staff's motion for enlargement of time provided that the time for discovery and other scheduling items set forth in the Board's Order are not disturbed.

The Staff also telephoned Counsel for the State, County and Town to inform them of this application and to learn their position, and was informed that these parties would promptly inform the Board of their position.

Respectfully submitted.
