This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. R. L. Cilimberg, P. J. Prescott, D. J. Lynn, and B. J. Mincher, of this office on December 8-12, 1986, of your facility at Wilmington, North Carolina and to the discussions of our findings with Mr. W. W. McMahon and members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The purpose of this inspection was to review the fabrication and inspection activities related to fuel assemblies, and to review Ouality Assurance (QA) program implementation at your Wilmington facility. Areas examined during the inspection included a review of pellet and fuel rod manufacturing, fuel assembly operations, nondestructive testing, corrective action on previous inspection findings, and recent fuel problems reported at LaSalle Unit 2 on January 29, 1986. Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the enclnsed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of an exam-ination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Based upon the results of this inspection, GE has implemented appropriate cor-rective actions which address previous NRC inspection findings.
As noted in the enclosed report, these findings, involving procedural adequacy and adherence to procedures, are considered closed based upon this inspection.
However, these areas may be reviewed during future NRC inspections.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Roon.
