I SURVEY FINDINGS AND RESULTS Subsequent volumes contains tables of data, affected during the survey Data is summarked in tables and the volumes aho contain resuhs ofdata interpretations and comparisons whh guidelines and xmditions established as surg objectiws.
4.1 BACKGROUND
LEVELS Direct readings for beta / gamma background for interior and exterior areas ury based on the material being surveyed. The beta gamma background levels in opta along with their associated codes are r
listed la Table E.1 'Ibese represent ten one minute readings for each material taken with a Ludlum uaxlet 2221 scaler /rasemeter with a 43-68,100 cut window, gas proportional detector. It should be noted that background fluctuated whhin a given Insterial and higher leveh can be obtained. Table E-1 does not reflect the maximum reading for each mate lal. Small rooms or areas where more than one wall was mode ofmatedal with elevated background readings in close proximity created many of the fahe readings in excess of the guideline value. Original survey resuhs in cpm were adjusted using the sww buckground rates to obtain the corrected dpm in the attached tables. Background levels for direct alpha readiD8s did not vary appreciably for the diffemt materials and chher a 0 4 or a 0.5 cpm background was used for obtaining corrected counts per minute, this information is also comaland in Table E 1. Background levels for alpha scans did not vary appreciably for the different materials and either a 0.4 or a 0.5 cpm background was used for obtaining corrected counts per minute, this ivforumtion is contained in Table E 1. Background levels fbr beta / gamma scans are listed in Table E-1; 44-47 cpm was used. Background levels for instrumentation used to count smears varied slightly each day and is recorded on the individual survey forms. Background levels for the smear counting irvenimmation as well as other background levels are contained in Table 2.
