Dear Mr. Rahe:
Subject:
Acceptance for Referencing of Licensing Topical Reports WCAP-8822-P-S1/WCAP-8860-S1 and WCAP-8822-P-S2/WCAP-8860-S2,
" Mass and Energy Release Following a Steam Line Rupture" The staff has completed its review of the subject topical reports submitted February 27, 1985 and October 7, 1985 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation letters NS-NRC-85-3009 and NS-NRC-85-3071, respectively. We find these reports are acceptable for referencing in licensing actions to the extent specified and under the limitations delineated in the reports and the associ-ated NRC evaluation which is enclosed. The evaluation defines the basis for acceptance of the reports.
We do not intend to repeat our review of the matters described in the reports and found acceptable, when the reports appear as references in the licensing actions except to assure that the material presented is applicable to the specific plant involved. Our acceptance applies only to the matters described in the reports.
In accordance with procedures established in NUREG-0390, it is requested that Westinghouse publish accepted versions of these reports, proprietary and non-proprietary, within three months of receipt of this letter. The accepted versions should incorporate this letter and the appropriate evaluation between the title page and the abstract. The accepted versions shall include an -A (designating accepted) following the report identification symbol.
Should our criteria or regulations change such that our conclusions as to the acceptability of the reports are invalidated, Westinghouse and/or the applicants referencing the topical reports will be expected to revise and resubmit their respective documentation, or submit justification for the continued effective applicability of the topical reports with revision of their respective document-ation.
Sincerely, Charles E. Rossi, Assistant Director Division of PWR Licensing - A 'Z/
