Dear Mr. Brown:
- In a letter dated June 15,1999, Kerr-McGee Corporation (KMC) notified NRC that KMC is amending the Phase I Remedial Design to include the constmetion of a second disposal cell in i
Unaffected Area 4. KMC requested NRC concurrence, prior to or in conjunction with approval
- of the site decommissioning plan, that all references to a disposal cell in license documents apply to either disposal cell.
Subsequent communication indicates that NRC would like clarification regarding the design of this second disposal cell. The design of this second disposal cell meets all specifications for liner and cover construction in acccrdance with the original remedial design. Engineered slopes, erosion control, and other aspects of disposal construction are also the same as for the original disposal cell. Even the requirements for long-term upgradient and downgradient groundwater monitoring are the same. Only the location, shape, and capacity of the second disposal cell and long-term groundwater monitoring network are different.
KMC believes this clarifies NRC's concerns regarding changing the design of the second disposal cell. If you have any questions er comments, please call me at (405) 270-2694.
