SUBJECT:

STAFF SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETING THE TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP STUDY OF ACCIDENT RISKS FOR DECOMMISSIONING PLANT SPENT FUEL POOLS The NRC held a public workshop on risks from decommissioning nuclear power plant spent fuel pool accidents on July 15 and 16,1999. During the workshop, the NRC agreed to document the plan of activities associated with completing the spent fuel pool accident risk assessment final report that will provide a technical basis for regulatory decision making in areas such as emergency planning and insurance for decommissioning nuclear power plants.

Attached is the staff's plan and schedule of activities for completing the study by March 31, 2000. Copies of this memorandum will be provided directly to interested public stakeholders.
