Byron Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Braidwood Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Emergency Operating Procedures i

NRC Docket Nos. 50-454/455 and 50-456/457 References (a): March 26, 1985 letter from D. H. Smith to H. R. Denton.

(b): September 16, 1986 letter from P. C. LeBlond to H. R. Denton.

Dear Mr. Denton:

Reference (a) provided the Procedures Generation Packages (PGPs) for Byron and Braidwood Stations. These PGPs have been utilized to construct the Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) for each station.

Reference (b) documented the resolution of a number of concerns regarding.

the PGP.

This submittal t mvides a revised response regarding three of the specific concerns that were discussed in reference (b). These revised responses are discussed below.

Item B.2.d of the NRC concerns contained in Attachment 1 of reference (b) will be resolved prior to exceeding 5% power on Braidwood Unit 1 or Byron Unit 2, whichever comes first. Specifically, the BOPS will be reviewed to eliminate the use of parenthesis and brackets for emphasis and Section V.F.5 of the PGP will be revised to discourage this use of parenthesis and brackets. This work will be performed prior to exceeding 5%

on either Braidwood Unit 1 or Byron Unit 2, whichever comes first.

Mr. H. R. Denton September 29, 1986 Item B.2.e indicated that equipment controls and displays should be identified through the use of a preferred, consistent method. The PGP will be revised to incorporate this guidance prior to January 31, 1987.

Item B.15 expressed a concern that the EOPs must be easily accessible and identifiable to the control room operators. There are multiple copies of the EOPs located inside of the control room area. These copies are readily accessible to all control room personnel. In addition, these binders are color coded to aid in rapid identification.
