GE-21)F-1 and W-21PF-1 Packages Docket No. 71-4909 By application dated August 22, 1986, Nuclear Containers, Inc. requested that the General Electric Company and Westinghouse Electric Company package designs be amended to permit a variation in the length of the +.ie-down support channels and permit sealing of the vent holes in the exterior packaging overpack with plastic plugs.
The variation in the tie-down support channels (8" x 2.5") from 43 to 55 inches has no effect on the structural aspects of the packaging design. In the event of a fire, the plastic plugs would burn away and would not interfere with the thermal response of the packaging to the accident conditions of transport.
The NRC staff is in agreement that these changes would have no effect on the ability of the package to meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
