PREVIOUSLY REMOVED UNDERGROUND RADIOACTIVE LIQUID WASTE TANKS AREAS - RELEASE TO UNRESTRICTED USE (TAC NO. L31200) i

Dear Dr. Asmussen:

in accordance with your application dated May 17,1999, and pursuant to Part 70 to Title 10 of i

the Code of Federal Regulations, Materials License SNM-696 is hereby amended to release j

four underground radioactive liquid waste tanks areas to unrestricted use.

We have reviewed your May 17,1999, request to remove the four underground radioactive liquid waste tanks areas near Buildings 9,21,31, and Laboratory 540 of Building 2 from your license and release to unrestricted use. Your request was supported with a report en;itled,

" Final Report, Removal of Underground Liquid Radioactive Waste Storage Tanks." Our review has determined that there is reasonable assurance that the release of the areas where these tanks were located for unrestricted use will not adversely affect public health and safety or the environment.

Accordingly, Safety License Condition S-1 has been revised to include the date of May 17,1999, Radioactive Waste Storage Tanks, i

If, in the future, you desire to use licensed materials and conduct licensed activities in these facilities you must amend your license.

1 All other conditions of this license shall remain the same.

Enclosed are copies of the Materials License SNM-696 and the Safety Evaluation Report, which includes the Categorical Exclusion determination.
