SUBJECT:

FINAL INTEGRATED MATERIALS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM REVIEW OF NRC SEALED SOURCE AND DEVICE EVALUATION PROGRAM On July 221999, the Management Review Board (MRB) met to consider the proposed final Integrated Materials Performance Evaluation Program (iMPEP) report of the NRC Sealed Source and Device Evaluation Program. The MRB found the NRC program adequate to protect i

public health and safety.

Section 3.0, page 7, of the enclosed final report presents the IMPEP team's recommendations.

Based on your July 12,1999 letter which described your actions taken in response to the recommendations in the draft report, no additional information is required.

The MRB accepted the team's recommendation to conduct the next IMPEP review in two years.

This frequency is consistent with the two year cycle for Regional IMPEP reviews, would provide opportunity to review the upcoming changes to NRC's r agram, and reflects the national programmatic significance of the program.

If you have any questions, please contact Floyd R. Hamiter, Chief, Advanced Technology Licensing Project, Division of Licensing, Registration, and Standards, Texas Bureau of Radiation Control, phone (512) 834-6688 ext 2207.

We appreciate your staff's efforts during the IMPEP review period, and especially during the time of the team's visit.

FINAL INTEGRATED MATERIALS PERFORMANCE VALUATION PROGRAM REVIEW OF NRC SEALED OURCE AND DEVICE EVALUATION PROGRAM On July 221999, the Manageme t Review Board (MRB) met to consider the proposed final Integrated Materials Performance valuation Program (IMPEP) report of the NRC Sealed Source and Device Evaluation Pro am. The MRB found the NMSS program adequate to ptotect public health and safety.

Section 3.0, page 7, of the enclosed fi al report presents the IMPEP team's recommendations.

Based on your July 12,1999 letter whi described your actions taken in response to the recommendations in the draft report, no dditional information is required.

Even though the program was found adeq ate to protect public health and safety, with the upcoming changes to the NRC's program, n independent evaluation would benefit the program. The MRB recommends that the n xt IMPEP occur in two years. This frequency is consistent with the two year cycle for Region i IMPEP reviews.

If you have any questions, please contact Floy R. Hamiter, Chief, Advanced Technology Licensing Project, Division of Licensing, Regist tion, and Standards, Texas Bureau of Radiation Control, phone (512) 834-6688 ext 22 7.

We appreciate NMSS's efforts during the IMPEP r view period, and especially during the time of the team's visit.
