Section 309(a} of the Comprehensive Anti Anartheid Act of 1986 provides that no " uranium are or uranium ovide produced or manufactured in South Africa" may be incerted into the Unit 9d States after December 31, 1986.
As a result of this lecislation the fJucloar Regulatory Commission, on December 31, 1986, revised its reculations to require a specific license for' the import of uranium in'any fnrm of South African oriqin. This revision to our regulations rodifies the general import license at 10 CFR 110.?7, which has been in of'ect since January 1985, to preclude' its use for the impcrt of uranium of South African origin.
As a relatad matter.wn have reviewed our records to identify any specific import licenses, issued prior to January lop 5, which are still valid and undor which material of South African orioir, could entor the U.S.

this review, we have identified the followino license issuad to your company:

Although the December 31, 1986 revision to our general import licensing authority did not directly affect your existing import license, the provisions of the Anti-Anartheid Act may nswertheless require nodification to this license. We have reouested the views ef the Executivo Branch on this matter and the Commission will decide upon an appropriate course of action in the near future.
In the interim, we are requestino you and all other holders of specific import licenses to refrain from importing any material of South African origin under these licenses while our reviaw is under way. Should you anticipate a requirerent to utilizo your existing licanse to import any South African uranium, your cooperation in advising us of your plans before +he import is made would he greatly appreciated.
