StBNUOf 0F EETING HPl210 DISCUSS IRAFf E12C1R1 CAL SY311NS RBQUEh'IS FOR INREMATI(N AND POSITIG6 On October 30, 1974, repusentatives of WPPSS, thited 51gineers and Constructors (IE4C), Babcock and Wilcox (34W) aund the Regulatory staff met in Bethesda, Maryland, to discuss the sut:jsct draft mquests aral positions prepared by the Electrical Instrtmentation and Contml Systatas Branch (EICSD). %e purpose of the discussion was to assure that the applicant understands the concerns of the staff and to hear preliair.ary responses to specific issues. An attenfance _ list is enclosed. A stuury of the meeting discussion follows:

Fifty draft requests and postions were discussed and six additioimi ones were presented to the applicant at the meeting. The draft material discussed is schedaled to be femally issued to the applicant by the staff on November 2q,1974, Sc>ver:d areas of disagreement between the staff and applicant surfaced during the discussions. One such area involyes the staff position mquiring applicant compliance with IEEE-32F1974. B4W stated that they would have to take exception to the aging nquinments of the nmt standard, and that they were attempting to schedule a generic meeting with the staff on this subject expected to take place in early Decenber 1974. Other staff positions to which the applicent felt they might take exception in their respmse were:

1) 1ho staff position that anfety niated instrunentation records shall be seismically qualified to accurately mcotti after (but not during) a seismic ovent.
2) 1ho staff position that fully automatic switc!wver frten the PICS injection ande to the recittulation mode saast be ymyided in conformance with IEEE 279-19 71. 34W believes that the WPPSS systan design pmvides for few enough nquind opentor actions and a long enough time period in which to accglish that  ;

switchwer, such that misquate system safety is prwided with /

nanual switching.
