Dear-Mr. Wallander:
Your Quality- Assurance Progrum A) proval No. 0262 is hereby terminated as discussed by telephone with Stepien O'Connor of mf staff. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission published a final rule, effective June 27. 1997, revising the requirements of 10 CFR Part 34. " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for- Industrial Radiographic Operations." The revision, which contained numerous changes in the
. requirements, also modified the-quality assurance (0A)- requirements for transportation. As a result of these changes, a separate NRC OA program ;
approval is no longer needed.
Specifically, transportation activities are now contained in a new paragraph,
, 10 CFR 71.101(g). This provision was added-to the regulations and requires 4 -
that inspection and maintenance vograms limited to radiographic exposure devices source changers, or paccages transporting these devices and meeting-the provisions of.10 CFR Part 3d.31(b), or equivalent Agreement State Lregulations, satisfy the general license-requirements specified in 10 CFR Part 71.12(b)-for Type B transport-packages.
