Dear Mr. Hartley:
Your Quality Assurance Program A) proval No. 0871 is hereby terminated as discussed by telephone with Staplen O'Connor of my staff. . The Nuclear Regulatory Commission published a final rule effective June 27. 1997 revising the requirements of 10 CFR Part 34. " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Industrial Radicgraphic Operations." The revisior., which contained numerous changes in the requirements, also modified the quality assurance (0A) requirements for transportation. As a result of these changes, a separate NRC OA program approval is no longer needed.
4 Specifically, transportation activities are now contained in a new paragraph.
10 CFR 71.101(g). This provision was added to the regulations and requires that inspection and maintenance )rograms limited to radiographic exposure
! devices, source changers or paccages transportMg these devices and meeting l
the rovisions of 10 CFR Part 34.31(b). or equivalent Agreement State regu ations. satisfy the general license requirements specified in 10 CFR Part
} 71.12(b) for Type B transport packages.
