Dear Mr. Riccio:
This letter documents your telephone conversation with Jim Lyons of my staff on August 5, 1999. Mr. Lyons called to inform you that a date cited in the Chairman's letter to you of I July 23,1999, was incorrect. In the July 23 letter, we had stated that the draft SECY document !
described in your letter of May 25,1999, was available in the Public Document Room (PDR) on )'
April 7,1999. In fact, the document has a NUDOCS accession date of April 7, but the microfiche was not received in the PDR until April 14,1999, and the paper copy was not received by the PDR until April 20,1999. You told Mr. Lyons that you had already realized this ,
error had been made and had written to the Chairman requesting a meeting about this and other concerns you have about the response you received. t l
Mr. Lyons also informed you that the agency has a task group that is addressing the issues raised at the pub lic meeting on July 9,1999, on the release of information to the public. The
]
staff plans to have another public meeting in mid-September 1999 to discuss the progress of this group and to obtain feedback from the stakeholders on our plans for addressing the issues.
I apologize for the mistake in our response. As you know, we have already instructed the staff to send high-interest documents directly to the PDR and to verify that these documents are available in the PDR before we release them to the public. With the agencywide implementation of the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS),
publicly released documents will be available electronically at the same time to all interested j parties.
