Inspection No. 70-687/87-01 A special, unannounced inspection was conducted by personnel from this office on January 14-15, 1987, to review the events and radiological controls asso-ciated with an apparent radiation exposure to the extremities of one worker in excess of the NRC regulatory limit during the third calendar quarter, 1985.
Our inspector findings relative to the apparent overexposure which were dis-cussed with you during NRC Inspection Nos. 687/86-06 and 687/87-01 are included in the enclosed inspection report.
It appears that several of your activities were not conducted in full compli-ance with regulatory requirements. Apparent violations are discussed in the enclosed report. As discussed in the telephone call between you and Dr. M.
Shanbaky of my staff on January 30, 1987, we have scheduled an Enforcement Conference in the Region I office for February 13, 1987 at 1:00 p.m. to discuss these matters with you. The need for and the nature of appropriate enforcement action for the apparent violations will be the subject of separate correspon-dence at a later date.
