hblf Creek Remedial Exercise Attached is a copy of a memorandum fran Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VII on the results of a remedial exercise conducted on April 3,1986, to evaluate corrective actions taken to resolve a deficiency observed at the November 20, 1985, exercise at the Wolf Creek Generating Station, Coffee County, Kansas. The remedial exercise was held at the Garnett City Peception/ Relocation Center to denonstrate revised radiological monitoring procedures. Prior to the exercise, training had been carried out.

Although the perfonnance of the procedures was adequate at the exercise, the procedures Regional are currently Assistance Cminittee.undergoing a fornal review by the Region VII The results of the review will be made available to you as soon as we receive and analyze them.

SUBJECT:

Wolf Creek Generating Station - Remedial Exercise Conducted April 3, 1986, at the Garnett City Reception / Relocation Center As a result of the deficiency identified during the November 20, 1985, exercise of the Wolf Creek Generating Station, a remedial exeriese was conducted April 3, 1986, at the Garnett City Reception / Relocation Center.

Corrective actions consisted of preparing detailed procedures for monitoring and decontamination, providing training in monitoring concepts and procedures, and having prospective monitors demonstrate their response capabilities.

These requirements were adequately completed. Written procedures for monitoring and decontamination vere provided. Monitors received appropriate training in both monitoring and decontamination concepts. Subsequently, these functions and procedures were adequately demonstrated. Two teams were utilized; each monitoring three individuals. Procedures for disposition of contaminated articles were also demonstrated. Decontamination of evacuees, equipment and vehicles was not actually demonstrated. However, the procedures for performing this function vere thoroughly discussed.

The citten procedures for monitoring and decontamination, provided at the exericse, vill be reviewed by the appropriate Regional Assistance Committee (RAC) member for appropriateness. This deficiency vill be closed when this review is conpleted and the written procedures are determined to be adequate.
