Dear Mr._Ballard:
Your-Quality Assurance Program A) proval No. 0627 is hereby terminated. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission ualished a final rule, effective June 27, 1997.
revising the requirements of 1 CFR Part 34. " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Industrial Radiographic Operations." The revision, which contained numerous changes in the requirements, also modified the quality assurance (0A) requirements for transportation.
As e result of these changes, a separate NRC QA program approval is no. longer needed.
O Specifically, transportation activities are now contained in a new paragraph.
L 10-CFR 71.101(g). This provision was added to the regulations and requires l
that inspection and maintenance )rograms limited to radiographic exposure devices, source changers, or paccages transporting these devices and meeting
.the rovisions of 10 CFR Part 34.31(b). or equiva ent Agreement State regu ations, satisfy the general license requirements specified in 10 CFR Part
-71.12(b) for Type B transport packages.
