Dear Mr. Waggoner:

Your Quality Assurance Program A> proval No. 0775 is hereby terminated. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission pu)lished a final rule, effective June 27, 1997.

i revising the requirements of 10 CFR Part 34. " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safet Requirements for Industrial Radiographic Operations." The revision, whi h contained numerous changes in the

- requirements, also modified _ the quality assurance (0A) requirements for transportation. As a result of these changes, a separate NRC OA program approval is no longer needed.

Specifically transportation activities are now contained in a new paragraph.

10 CFR 71.101(g).

This provision was added to the regulations and requires that inspection and maintenance )rograms limited to radiographic exposure devices, source changers, or paccages transporting these devices and meeting the provisions of 10 CFR Part 34.31(b). or equivalent Agreement State regulations, satisfy the general license requirements specified in 10 CFR Part 71.12(b) for_ Type B transport packages.
