Dear Mr. Hiestand:
This is in response to your March 4 letter to the Commission expressing an urgent need for the material covered by U.S.
Nuclear's application for an amendment to export license XSLM-690 and requesting that the Commissi'6n expedite issuance of this amendment.
As you know, under established procedures for the review of export applications, the Commission carefully reviews the ir.-
formation from, and the views of, the Executive Branch before taking action and making determinations as required by the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended.
For your inforcation, I am enclosing a recent letter from the Executive Branch wh'ch advises the Nuclear Regulatory Corrmission that the Executive Branch (i) intends to examine the subject proposed export pr:=ptly upon completion of the current review of United States nuclear export and non-proliferation policy, and (2) will then provide its views on the proposed export.
Upon receipt of the Executive Branch's final views, the Ccmmis-sion intends to take action on the matter prcmptly in light of those views and other matters pending before the Commission relating to this application.
