Dear Mr. Hagan: f ' An NRC inspection was conducted June 22 through August 2,1997, at your Grand Gulf Nuclear Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection. ' During the 6 wook period covered by this inspection report, your conduct of activities at j. the Grand Gulf f acility was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound , l- engineering and maintenance practices, and careful radiological work controls. One l l violation of NRC requirements was identified. The violation involved the failure to ensure that a procedurally required engineering evaluation was performed before allowing an ! ' extension ladder to be supported by a safety related cable tray in containment. I I The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances j surrounding this violation are described in detailin the enclosed report. Please note that , i you are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions specified in the
! enclosed Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will use your response, in part, ' l to determine whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. , in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, i its enclosures, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR). i To the extent possible, your response should not include any personal privacy, proprietary, or safeguards information so that it can be placed in the PDR without redaction. ..
